ARE: Gujarat DRC SA has received a favorable opinion for a 248 MWp solar power plant project that will provide electricity to 70,000 households and create more than 500 jobs

On Monday, September 15, 2025, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ARE) has granted a favorable opinion to Gujarat DRC SA regarding a license for the production of electricity from a 248 MWp solar power plant.

This project, which will provide electricity to 70,000 households, will be implemented in the village of Fipango, at the Kashamata site, in the Kipushi territory (Haut-Katanga Province).

The handover was made, on behalf of the CEO of ARE, Dr. Sandrine Mubenga Ngalula, by the Director of Provincial Representations, Mr. Pascal Tshimbalanga, to Mr. Luc Kayembe, representative of Gujarat DRC SA.

Social and economic impact

The positive impacts of the project include:

  • The creation of more than 500 temporary jobs and 50 permanent ones;
  • The construction of a hospital and a school for the local community;
  • The development of local economic activities and increased revenue for service providers;
  • Improved living conditions and access to basic social services.

This project is in line with ARE’s vision to promote equitable access to reliable and sustainable electricity, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the Democratic Republic of Congo
